You be You, and I’ll be Me

I’ve been a little selfish with this song lately. Well, actually I had passed it on to a friend or two, but I was going to post it sometime last week and then decided that I wasn’t yet ready to share it with the world. I think I am now…

This song really helped me get through a few things last week. Sometimes I have to remember that no matter who the person is, no matter how you know them or are related to them or whatever the situation, I can’t change them, and they can’t change me. Some people just don’t get along, some people just aren’t meant to be in each others lives. It’s sad when it’s someone who you think is meant to be in your life – like a family member or someone who you have known since you were a young child – but there comes a time when you realise that the relationship that you have isn’t healthy or beneficial to anyone involved. It’s hurting both of you and no matter what you do, you will never be able to change that. Everyone deserves peace and serenity, and if being involved with that person isn’t creating a harmonious relationship, then it needs to be released.

So, this song (to me) is about letting go of that someone who is/was/should be close to me. It’s ok for ‘you to be you, me to be me and we both just need to let it go’. Not in a vengeful or ‘hating on the other person’ kind of way, because I don’t hate anyone, I don’t see the point in that. I’m not a vengeful person and my mind and my heart are (and will always be) open, but there are some things and people who you just have to sadly and gracefully part ways with.

Enough from me, and more from James Bay!

From walking home and talking lows
Seeing chirps in evening clothes with you
From nervous touch and getting drunk
To staying up and waking up with you

Now we’re slipping near the edge
Holding something we don’t need
Oh, this delusion in our heads
Is gonna bring us to our knees

So come on, let it go
JUST LET IT BE
Why don’t you be you
And I’ll be me

Everything that’s broke
Leave it to the breeze
Why don’t you be you
AND I’LL BE ME

And I’ll be me

From throwing clothes across the floor
To teeth and clothes and slamming door on you
If this is all we’re living for
Why are we doing it, doing it, doing it anymore?

I used to recognize myself
It’s funny how reflections change
When we’re becoming something else
I think it’s time to walk away

So come on, let it go
JUST LET IT BE
Why don’t you be you
And I’ll be me

Everything that’s broke
Leave it to the breeze
Why don’t you be you
AND I’LL BE ME

And I’ll be me

Tryna fit your hand inside mine
When we know it just don’t belong
There’s no force on earth
Could make me feel so wrong

Tryna push this problem up the hill
When it’s too heavy to hold
Think now is the time to let it slide

So come on, let it go
JUST LET IT BE
Why don’t you be you
And I’ll be me

Everything that’s broke
Leave it to the breeze
Let the ashes fall
FORGET ABOUT ME

And I’ll be me

So come on, let it go
JUST LET IT BE
Why don’t you be you
And I’ll be me

And I’ll be me
