Debunking the idea that everything happens for a reason

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Que Sera Sera.”

I’ve always been a believer of everything happening for a reason. And while I still believe that is somewhat true…I don’t think it’s the entirety of the case anymore. Things happen to you for a particular reason, yes. So that it helps you learn and grow, to become a better person.

However, people make choices. People always have a choice when it comes to almost any situation. You simply cannot use the idea that “everything happens for a reason” to justify something stupid, hurtful or selfish that you did that in turn, affected other people. Saying that after some poor choices you made, is just a cop-out.

Take responsibility for your actions and your mistakes.

I believe that life is a mixture of fate and having the ability to control your destiny. There is no one solid answer. No right, nor wrong.

Make (good) choices. Learn from your experiences.

And become the best person you can be.
