What’s in a name?

A lot of people tend to ask me what my name means – now, my name is not one of those extraordinary, multicultural names, my name is; as this blog name suggests, Olivia.

Despite my name being far from unique, for the most part, I never really took much time to figure out what it means. So, while I was looking up baby names (not because I’m having a baby any time soon, but it is babies GALORE out there at the moment!), I decided to look up my name and see what it actually means.

Now, to get an average idea of what my name means, I googled a few different ‘name meaning’ sites just to see if they all say similar things, or if one differs drastically or anything.

The general consensus says that the name “Olivia” means: well, firstly it often comes from the word ‘olive’ or ‘olive tree/branch’, therefore giving the symbol of peace.

I researched 5 different sites that all came to this conclusion (although one site did say its meaning was ‘elf army’! ha! Whatever that is. But it did go on to say in the ‘additional info’ that derived from ‘olive’).

On one site I found these characteristics (if you will) of the name:

People with this name have a deep inner need for quiet, and a desire to understand and analyze the world they live in, and to learn the deeper truths.”

“People with this name are excited by change, adventure, and excitement. They are dynamic, visionary and versatile, able to make constructive use of freedom. They fight being restricted by rules and conventions. They tend to be optimistic, energetic, intelligent, and to make friends easily. They may be changeable, restless, untidy, and rebellious.”

I quite like this, and can pretty much agree with a lot (if not all) of it in regards to who I am as a person (although I don’t regard my abilities to make friends as easily as they say, but hey, that doesn’t tend to worry me so much).

Peace out homies ✌
